What is your response?

I feel as though there is the misconception that once you surrender to the Lord and let Him lead your life, nothing "hard" is required of us after that.

Well friends, I'm here to tell you that that's not always the case.

Being a believer requires us to be bold and do things we may prefer not to.

I'm not talking about having to climb Mount Everest, (although some of you would enjoy that). I'm referring to the fact that in being a follower of Christ Jesus, we are essentially signing up to be be the "odd ones" of society, who don't look, talk, believe, think, love, agree, or blend in with everyone else.

Take the prophet, Jeremiah, for example.

The Lord had instructed him to tell the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem that whoever did not obey the words of God’s covenant would be cursed. (Jeremiah 11:1-5) Jeremiah’s response?

“So be it, Lord.”

When asked to do something that may have caused him to be uncomfortable, any possible fears of being laughed at or hated are not recorded. The only thing that is recorded is his very firm and humble "yes".

How much trust he must've had in the Lord to just be so adamant on obedience in spite of all else.

Is this our response when God tells us to do something we'd rather not?

Do we complain?

Does our attitude reflect what we claim to believe?

What is our heart's posture towards what is asked of us?

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord,

And whose hope is the Lord.”

Jeremiah 17:7
