“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.”
Psalm 20:7
What anchors you?
When we have a horizontal view of our lives, the pressure to ensure all runs smoothly rests either on ourselves, another person, or a circumstance. The “peace” that comes from these is fleeting and never sustainable. We are left feeling weary, perhaps angry and usually stressed.
But when we embrace the vertical view we were designed to, we are freed from the lie that says we need to be in control. The peace that comes from truly understanding who God is and discovering that He is for us becomes the strength that’s needed in the mundane and in the catastrophic. This peace preserves us continually if we’ll just trust.
What settles our angst?
Is my heart at ease because of the number in my bank account?
Or perhaps the title that precedes my name at work?
My relationship status?
Maybe it’s what I’m hearing on the news?
My looks?
Is it what I can do in my own strength?
Will I trade it all for the true gift of peace only God can offer?
“Some find their strength in their weapons and wisdom, but my miracle-deliverance can never be won by men. Our boast is in Yahweh our God, who makes us strong and gives us victory!”
