When Jesus was on earth, he charged us with what is known to all believers as, The Great Commission.
To “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that He had commanded us.” (Matthew 28:19-20)
But what does that look like practically?
Will I have to evangelize to everyone I see?
Are we all to “make disciples” in the same manner?
I love the way The Amplified Bible translation of the Scriptures presents Matthew 28:19-20:
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations [help the people to learn of Me, believe in Me, and obey My words], baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always [remaining with you perpetually—regardless of circumstance, and on every occasion], even to the end of the age.”
We are to help others learn about God, believe in Him and obey Him. We are to teach them all that Jesus taught.
I realize there are some who believe that ministry looks one particular way, but I believe every believer has their own ministry. And it looks different to each one.
Have you ever wondered why some are more passionate than others to serve in foreign lands?
Or why evangelizing to people in a more casual setting may be more alluring to a select few?
Ephesians 4:11-13 TPT says:
“And he has appointed some with grace to be apostles, and some with grace to be prophets, and some with grace to be evangelists, and some with grace to be pastors, and some with grace to be teachers. And their calling is to nurture and prepare all the holy believers to do their own works of ministry, and as they do this they will enlarge and build up the body of Christ. These grace ministries will function until we all attain oneness into the faith, until we all experience the fullness of what it means to know the Son of God, and finally we become one into a perfect man with the full dimensions of spiritual maturity and fully developed into the abundance of Christ.”
Did you catch that?
While all believers have been appointed different ways in which to carry out what Jesus commanded, all have been appointed a ministry.
We each have unique sets of attributes that could be of use for the Lord's kingdom.
And we all have the most important piece of this in common: one calling- to nurture and prepare all believers to build up the body of Christ.
Personally, writing has always been a passion of mine. Gradually, the Lord has been helping me use this for His purpose.
As a homemaker, I have the incredible opportunity and blessing to be able to share the gospel with others in ways I most enjoy via blogging and my Youtube Channel.
This is my ministry and I am so thankful I get to do it in this manner.
Maybe there are people at your place of employment who have yet to hear the gospel, maybe it's a family member, or maybe your classmates.
Whatever your community looks like, maybe that's who you're meant to help, teach and encourage in the Lord.
In any case, you have a ministry and you have been charged to tend to it!
What is yours like?
